IPEDS reporting for Virginia Institutions
SCHEV is removing itself from the bulk of the IPEDS process. With the move to web-based submission of IPEDS, there is no longer any need for SCHEV to collect the IPEDS from the institutions and then submit on behalf of the institutions, then require the institutions to verify, edit, and lock the data they originally submitted to SCHEV, and finally require SCHEV to review, verify, edit, and lock. This is unnecessarily complex and redundant. Also, the responsibility to report IPEDS (especially for the private institutions) lies with the institution and not with the state coordinator. It is the institution that would suffer any penalties, not SCHEV.
In instances where SCHEV is already collecting unit record data that can be used to respond to IPEDS (Completions, Fall Enrollment, and GRS) SCHEV will continue to submit on behalf of the institutions.
As always, SCHEV staff will be available to assist or advise with the IPEDS process.
A Note on Biennial Collections:
In order to maintain year-to-year data in areas that NCES collects only in odd- or even-numbered years, SCHEV
will collect Faculty Salary (IPEDS SA) and Fall Staff (IPEDS S) in the off years. However, based on our
understanding with NCES, we will continue to use the IPEDS website to handle the collection. This obviously
allows us to devote resources where they are most needed and use a tool that is already funded and improved on
an annual basis.
