P-1: Students Entering Teacher Education Programs in the Fall

In the Fall of academic year 2006-07, the VITAL institutions submitted records of 2,746 students entering teacher education programs for the first time. Of these students, 271 (9.9%) did not have matches in the Fall headcount file. Excluding these unmatched students, there were 445 (16.2%) male students, 2,030 (73.9%) female students, 2,098 (76.4%) white/caucasian students, 276 (10.1%) non-white students, and 101 (3.7%) race/ethnicity unknown or unreported.

In terms of program enrollment, by type of program, the breakout is as follows:

      Four-year undergraduate programs: 1,373
      Master's programs: 814
      Licensure-only programs: 282
      Alternative/Career Switchers: 113
      Five-year undergraduate programs: 164

Of those programs that were able to report student GPAs, the following information is available:

      869 High school GPAs were reported with an average GPA of 3.42
      1,455 Undergraduate GPAs were reported with an average GPA of 3.23
      49 Graduate GPAs were reported with an average GPA of 3.82
