Guide to the Mid-Career Wages Reports

When SCHEV released Post-Completion Wages of Graduates in 2012, there were concerns from college leaders that short-term outcomes across programs majors hide the overall success of liberal arts graduates. In response to these concerns, SCHEV staff promised to provide reports of longer-term outcomes, beyond the 18 months and five years post-completion originally published. With these reports, SCHEV has kept that promise.

SCHEV has been collecting student-level data since 1992 from public and private, nonprofit institutions. The Virginia Employment Commission has made available, through VLDS (Virginia’s Longitudinal Data System) unemployment insurance wage files going back to 1998 through 2013. The availability of these data enables SCHEV to report on post-completion wage outcomes of up to 20 years following graduation. Over time, the horizon of these data will extend to encompass a full working life, one generally covering multiple jobs, even multiple careers, all without matching identifiable records.

A summary report for the graduates of 1992-93 can be found here.

The Mid-Career Wages Reports can be found at:

EOM 18 Report
Top level review of wages from 1998 through 2013 for graduates as early 1992-93. Degree-level only

EOM 19 Report

EOM 20 Report
The EOM 20 allows users to focus on graduates of a given year, discipline area, and degree level. There are four tabs:
Trends - Displays the median and middle range of earnings for all available years compared to all programs at that degree-level.
Counts - Displays the numbers and percentage of graduates reported with Full-time equivalent wages and part-time equivalent (less than 150% of the poverty level) wages for the reported years.
Degree Comparison - Displays the trend of the median wages against those of the discipline areas with reportable wage data.
Definitions - Provides the definitions of the data used in the reporting, and its limits.

EOM 21 Report
The EOM 21 charts all degree levels of a discipline area for a specified year of graduates. Trend lines for the median wage, and area plots of the middle range of wages are provided.

EOM 22 Report
The EOM 22 is similar to the EOM 21 in that it provides multiple tabbed views of the data of a given year, discipline area, and degree level.
Trends - Displays the median and middle range of earnings for all available years.
"All Cohorts" - Plots the trend median wages for the specified degree-level and discipline area for all graduating cohorts. The selected year is provided as a solid line to compare against dash lines for other years.
Counts - Displays the numbers and percentage of graduates reported with Full-time equivalent wages and part-time equivalent (less than 150% of the poverty level) wages for the reported years.
Early Wage Trends - Displays the median wages for the first five years after graduation, for each of the graduation cohorts for which five years of wage outcomes are available.
